Exterior of Sercotel Granada Suites

Sercotel Granada Suites is a 28-apartment aparthotel in Granada with limited reception hours. There are stretches of the day with nobody downstairs, and the building still has to run.

In that setup, climate control drifts on its own. An apartment that empties out keeps heating or cooling until somebody walks in and switches it off, and in a building without permanent staff, that somebody can take hours, or never show up at all.

The install: under three hours, no doors opened

This is the number that usually stops the conversation short.

All 28 apartments were live in under three hours. No building work, no new cabling and (the part that surprises people) without opening a single room door.

That meant no apartments had to be blocked, no reshuffling of that week's occupancy, no guests to notify, and no coordination with housekeeping to get into occupied units. The aparthotel kept selling as normal while the install happened.

What the system does

Climate control is connected to the PMS, so the automations run off the actual booking rather than fixed schedules:

  • Pre-conditioning before check-in. The apartment reaches temperature before the guest arrives, with as much lead time as the hotel wants. Nobody walks into an August-hot room.
  • Off or setback at checkout. The moment the stay ends, the unit stops spending.
  • Standby when there is no booking. An apartment with nobody due doesn't run climate.
  • Automatic switch-off after maintenance or housekeeping. If someone leaves the air on in an unbooked apartment, it shuts down by itself within minutes.
  • Temperature limits. They cut out the extremes without the guest feeling a locked thermostat: they can turn it down, and after the configured time it returns to the limit.
  • Alerts. If an apartment isn't reaching temperature, the warning arrives before the guest's phone call does.

Why this case matters

Because it clears the objection that comes up every single time climate automation is mentioned: that it means building work, weeks of disruption and units out of service.

Here it was 28 apartments, one morning, and not one door opened. By the end of it, the building had stopped cooling empty air.

The Checkout Button went into the same aparthotel. We cover that separately, in this other case study.
